It is a four stroke, DOHC, four valve, one cylinder, liquid cooled, 6-geared, dual-sport bike. I bought it as a daily commuter for 6 months, then it's all play for this baby! This 250 has plenty of power and goes 60+ with a 210 pounder on it! I'd like to take it camping with us. I need to get a ramp first!

Manual

The odometer 10/2000 after riding home. 5584.3 miles. (take 45 - 50 miles.)   The odometer 4/2005 when I sold it. I put about 3,527.3 miles on it! I promplty got both, the base and supplemental service manuals, as well as the owners manual. The base manual covers 1984 KLR 600 U.S. And European models (It doesn't say what else it covers though?

It's what the dealer pulled for my 1990 KLR250.) The supplimental manual covers 1985 - 1997 years, and models KL250-D2 to KL250-D14. These manuals are not as good as my Haynes manuals, but are good enough to follow. I'd say they're meant more for a technician.

I quickly changed the oil & filter, coolant system, air filter, and the spark plug. Opened the carbeurater drain and drained out any dirt and water. Synthetic oil and pre-mixed coolant helped get the bike ready for the winter driving at low temperatures. The chain was fairly dirty, so a good cleaning left it shiny new again - rolls much better!

This is more to remind me when and what needs to be done. The following pictures are for 1985 - 1997 years, and models KL250-D2 to KL250-D14 ONLY! Here are the, the, and the from the supplemental manual (KLR250s.)   These pictures are exploded views of the crankshaft - and.
