Stitch patterns with line by line directions and color photos are presented in this book. Patterns use 1, 2 and 3 colors. The book was originally published in Great Britain and uses some terminology not familiar to US knitters. These terms, however, are defined in the introductory pages. Pattern categories include: (1) knit and purl patterns; (2) patterns for texture and colour; (3) All-over lace patterns; (4) lace panel stitches; (5) Rib patterns; (6) cables; (7) edging patterns. The concept of this work is similar to Barbara G. Walker's 'Treasury of Knitting Patterns' and subsequent volumes.

Many of these stitch patterns can also be found in her works. What is unique in this volume is the use of 2 and 3 colors for a pattern. Since the photos are in color, the reader has a better notion of how a stitch might work with a garment. I prefer the Walker volumes because of the additional information she passes on about how to use the fabric in garments, but nonetheless, this volume is certainly useful.
